The Federation of Portuguese Cerebral Palsy Associations (FAPPC) represents 18 institutions across the country (mainland and islands) and a universe of more than 20,000 people with cerebral palsy.
The origin of the Federation of Portuguese Cerebral Palsy Associations was originally the Portuguese Cerebral Palsy Association of Lisbon (founded by a group of parents and technicians in 1960 as a Personal Institution of Social Solidarity, of and for the Disabled, made up of disabled people, parents, friends and technicians). Then, over the years, the Federation took on a representative leadership of the national territory and has been developing its action throughout the country. The FAPPC has taken on the task of defending and publicizing all its members, promoting the rights of people with cerebral palsy - but also playing an active role in general issues related to disabilities. For this reason, the Federation has played an active role and has been very present in other organizations in the social sector, as well as being represented in national decision-making bodies and mechanisms in terms of intervention policies for people with disabilities.
Since cerebral palsy is the most "common" disability among children born in Portugal - and since it is essentially a motor disability - these citizens are faced with real challenges in terms of the usability of countless pieces of equipment (mobile devices) and applications on such existing equipment. That's why, in addition to physical "barriers", it's important to start thinking more and more about technological barriers. With these donations, it will be possible to identify the real barriers that people with disabilities/cerebral palsy face on a daily basis. And this will be the first step towards breaking them down!
The FAPPC network: Azores / Almada - Seixal / Beja / Braga / Coimbra / Évora / Faro / Guimarães / Leiria / Lisboa / Madeira / Odemira / Porto / Santarém / Viana do Castelo / Vila Real / Viseu.
