Caritas Diocesana de Leiria-Fátima is a Personal Social Personal Institution (IPSS) that has been serving the community since 1977. As part of the Caritas Portuguesa and Caritas Internationalis networks, it is the organized expression of the social and charitable work of the Diocese of Leiria-Fátima, working to combat poverty and social exclusion with a hands-on approach, rigor, and humanity.
In the wake of Storm Kristin, which devastated the Central region in January 2026, the Diocesan Caritas of Leiria created the Social Emergency Fund, acting as the central coordinating body for donations, by agreement among the affected municipalities.
The Fund is managed with the assistance of Deloitte and is governed by criteria of total transparency, with regulations and procedures publicly disclosed.
